What is a hosted desktop / office?

A hosted desktop (or hosted office) is the practice of shifting all your files and applications from your local machine to a powerful server machine. This machine is often housed at a datacentre or other such secure location with exceptional site security, fire suppression and multiple internet connections. The server machines are also redundant so if they may suffer hardware failure, it does not cause any interruption to your service.
